Coming soon — full details and the open call will be published here in due course.
The demonstrator case scheme has served its purpose, and the ukSRC is now transitioning from demonstration to service delivery. To support this, we are launching the ukSRC science support programme: a streamlined, year-round route for the UK radio astronomy community to access ukSRC resources and national computing for their science.
What’s changing
Under the previous demonstrator case scheme, resources were allocated through periodic calls with a technical assessment, fixed onboarding windows, and annual reporting cycles. The new programme replaces this with a more flexible, lower-overhead model.
- Open call all year round — request resources whenever you need them, rather than waiting for a fixed annual call.
- Light-touch assessment — a quick appraisal followed by rapid onboarding, instead of a heavyweight technical review.
- Regular onboarding windows throughout the year (approximately quarterly) to bring new projects on board.
- Director’s discretionary time available at any point, with expedited onboarding after a light assessment — ideal for exploratory or proof-of-concept work.
What you can expect
- Resource access on ukSRC and national computing facilities for your project.
- User support for technical and scientific issues related to your data and processing.
- HPC training — regular basic HPC training sessions, plus advanced HPC training, to help you make the most of the facilities.
- Project check-ins during the year, with annual user renewal and project reporting.
Who can apply
The scheme is open to PIs based at a UK university. Further details and the application route will be announced alongside the open call.
